How Much When and How Often to Feed Your Adult Dog

dog-bowls.jpgFeeding your dog properly can be tricky.  The questions of how much, when, and how often come to mind. Well there are three ways I know of how most dogs are feed.

  • Place a full bowl or other food container out and allow your dog to eat all day.
  • Only give your dog a specific amount of food at scheduled intervals.
  • Allow your dog to eat only for a certain amount of time.

My dogs eat a set amount of dog food two times per day.  The amount I feed each one is dependent on how much the dog weighs.  Check with your vet or see the guidelines listed on your dog food bag or container to make sure you do not over feed your dog.

Even though you may follow the guidelines listed on your dogs food label it is still important to monitor your dogs health. If your dog is active you may need to feed more to sustain your dogs energy level. If you have a dog which is not very active you may not need to feed your dog as much food.  You should  check with your veterinarian before starting or changing your dog feeding routine.

Keep your dog healthy, evaluate your dogs physical condition every three to six months or follow your vet’s recommendations.

What is your dogs eating method? Do you think your dog is healthier because of the way you feed your dog?
